Developing Consensus Assessment and Treatment Outcome measures (CATO) across services for child and adolescent mental health

Title of Study: Developing Consensus Assessment and Treatment Outcome measures across services for child and adolescent mental health.

Name of Researchers: Professor Chris Hollis, Dr Martin Batty, Dr Pooria Sarrami Foroushani, Dr Sarah Pass, Dr Maria Moldavsky.

We would like to invite you to take part in our research study. Before you decide, we would like you to understand why the research is being done and what it would involve for you.

What is the purpose of this study?

Researchers have not asked healthcare professionals very much about their opinions of child and adolescent mental health assessment measures. We would like to collect information from professionals working in CAMHS to learn about measures they routinely collect and why they use them. We hope that this information will help us to develop a standardised set of assessment and outcome measures that might eventually be used in routine clinical practice.

Why have I been invited?

You have been invited to take part because you work in CAMHS. We are inviting CAMHS professionals across the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire (NDL) region to take part in the study.

Do I have to take part?

No. It’s entirely your choice. As we will not be able to identify any individuals who have completed the questionnaire, you may get follow up emails reminders about the survey even if you have already completed it or do not wish to take part.

What will happen to me if I take part?

If you agree to take part, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire, which will take less than 10 minutes to complete.

What are the possible benefits of taking part?

By taking part, you can help us in the development of managing young people’s care.

What happens when the research study stops?

We will disseminate the study results. If you would like to be kept informed about the project, please contact a member of the study team.

What if there is a problem?

If you have a concern about any aspect of this study, you should ask to speak to the researchers who will do their best to answer your questions (Professor Chris Hollis; 0115 8230258 or Dr Martin Batty; 0115 8230272). If you remain unhappy and wish to complain formally, you can do this via the NHS Complaints Procedure.

Will my taking part in the study be kept confidential?

We will follow ethical and legal practice and all information that you give us will be handled in confidence. You will not be identifiable if you complete the survey.

What will happen if I don’t want to complete the survey?

Your participation is voluntary and you are free to withdraw at any time without your legal rights being affected.

What will happen to the results of the research study?

We will use this information to assess the current usage of assessment measures. This information will help inform subsequent stages of the research process. We aim to write and circulate a report widely at the end of the study and publish the findings in a medical journal.

Who is organising and funding the research?

This research is being organised by the University of Nottingham and is being funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).

Who has reviewed the study?

This study has been reviewed and given favourable opinion by Nottingham Research Ethics Committee.
