University IT Consumable Database

This single page taken from a university department’s intranet allows users to request support, order consumables or chase an earlier support request. It stores the name and telephone extension of the requestor, along with account details for cross-division charging. The support and consumables requests are stored in separate data tables and automatically prints out task lists and stock requirements. Automatic emails are sent to ICT support staff whenever a new task is added.

A shortcut icon on every desktop allows efficient ICT support across a multi-location, multi-division university department. With an online checklist for the support engineer, tasks and supplies are managed in real-time, ensuring up-to-the-minute reporting. A Microsoft Access(R) Interface allows financial and time-based reports. A solution of this type is suitable for any ICT Support Unit.

The Ageing and Disability Research Unit

This is the first page of a research project for The Ageing and Disability Research Unit at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. Deliberately plain, the online questionnaire was designed on advice from people caring for, or people with Asperger Syndrome. In this instance, the participants were issued authorisation codes to log into the site to prevent possible contamination of data.

The site collects the data from the participants into a MySQL database. A php-driven page then imports the collated data in to Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets, stored on the investigator’s desktop.
